Toscana I.G.T. Guss
Toscana I.G.T. Guss unites the smoothness and intensity typical of Merlot with the elegance and freshness of Sangiovese grapes grown in the cool vineyards of Radda in Chianti. Intense, commanding and balanced, it is made only in the best vintages.
Grape
70% Merlot, 30% Sangiovese
Vinification and ageing
The freshly picked grapes are destemmed and crushed before undergoing fermentation in a temperature-controlled stainless steel tank with a capacity of 50 hl. This is followed by maceration on skins for about a month. This is made possible by the perfect ripeness of the grapes. This is followed by malolactic fermentation in 5 hl tonneaux, 30% of which are new wood. Ageing continues in the same wooden barrels for about 24 months. The wine spends at least 12 months in the bottle before being released for sale.
Sensory profile
Colour: Clear, ruby red with violet highlights.

Palate: Enveloping and commanding at the same time with a perfect balance between freshness and structure.
Alcohol content
Approximately 14.5% vol.
Gastronomic pairings
Ideal with mature cheeses, red meats and game. Extraordinary also when savoured on its own.

The Merlot grapes used to make Guss Toscana IGT come from the single vineyard Il Pratolino, located in the municipality of Radda in Chianti and selected for its pedoclimatic and production characteristics of absolute excellence.
Covering an area of 1.2 hectares, surrounded by a cool, lush wood, Il Pratolino sits at an altitude of about 450 metres above sea level and its soils are rich in water and sand, with a small percentage of clay. The considerable slope of the vineyard means that all operations have to be carried out by hand, and these are constant and painstaking at Il Pratolino. Extensive thinning operations are implemented, patiently established according to the real needs of each individual plant, leading to very low yields and healthy, balanced fruit, usually harvested late in the season.
