The underground cellar

Wines born from the earth. Our production cellar runs deep underground: a modern space, naturally thermoregulated and invisible from the outside, perfectly integrated with the surrounding area

The cellar, designed by architect Spartaco Mori, is a building that deeply respects the environmental balance. The result of long and complex excavation of the hard rock of Radda in Chanti, it is naturally cool and independently thermoregulated.

Its environmental impact is very low: the visible part of the building is minimal and is perfectly integrated with the surrounding natural and architectural landscape

Organic by choice and vocation

The organic conversion of the vineyards began in 2017 and was completed in 2020. Today, the 40 hectares of vineyards in production are fully certified organic.

Castello di Radda has steered its agricultural management towards production that favours low yields, managed with constant manual interventions aimed at preserving only the best part of the fruit. Each plot is cultivated according to the needs of the soil, the plants and the microclimate. The agronomic operations are planned and adapted to the needs of each individual plot: from fertilisation to pruning, from thinning to grass cover, the aim is to support the natural life cycle of each plant, without forcing it.

Protecting a territory

Sustainability is a conscious choice. We feel a responsibility to protect this land for ourselves and for future generations

We follow rules that pay constant attention to the balance and preservation of the local environment, with the aim of protecting biodiversity by planting and maintaining woods, non-productive flora and olive groves, preserving the landscape by building typically Tuscan dry stone walls, which effectively counteract soil erosion, and reducing the waste of natural resources by virtuous water management through the construction and maintenance of “acquidocci”, long, narrow stone ditches for draining water and returning it to the main waterways.
